  • how many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
First, the film shows STX Entertaintment, H. Brothers, Tang Media Productions,Gracie Films, then the producers along with the directors, later the title "The Edge of Seventeen", and then trough the 1st scene it shows the names of the main production crew.

  • what images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
It shows a tracking shot of her running trough the school's hallways during lunch to go talk to her favorite teacher, she's desperate, it looks as if she has an emergency. She tells her she's going to kill herself, he doesn't takes her seriously because he knows her, she would never do that.

  • what connotations do the images carry?
We can connotate by this that she is struggling with her life and she doesn't really have anyone to be in lunch with but her teacher.

  • how is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
The outsets of the film, really reinforces the genre trough symbols and technical codes. We are introduced to this main carachter which is a teenager, the dialog between her and the teacher shows her "teenage drama".

  • how does the film establish an enigma from the outset?
The way the film establishes the enigma of the outset is by letting the audience to get to know the main character's struggles. 

  • what strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? 
  • The main strategies I would say a teenager in high school, then we are introduce to her problematic parents, her problems and the fact that she doesn't like school, this are all qualities that most teenagers can relate.

  • how has technology been used effectively?
Technology was used effectively by the different camera angles and voice overs, the tracking shot at the beginning made the scene interesting, along with flashbacks from her childhood, and voice overs to help understand the story.
